The laws of animation, applied by intent

The Disney principles are the difference between a layer that moves and a layer that feels alive. Prism knows them, and applies the ones that translate to motion graphics — on request, or as the finishing pass on a move it just built.

  • Anticipation — a small wind-up before the action, so the eye is ready for it
  • Follow-through and overlapping action — parts that keep moving and settle after the main mass stops
  • Squash and stretch — weight and elasticity, without distorting the artwork
  • Secondary action — a supporting motion that reinforces the main one
  • Staging — emphasis that leads the eye to what matters in the frame
  • Arcs — natural curved paths instead of stiff straight lines
  • Slow in and slow out — the eases that make starts and stops feel real

Reproducing these by intent — "give the logo a little anticipation, then let the badge follow through" — is the hardest part of animation to get right. Prism knows the vocabulary, so you can ask for it by name.

Real spring physics

Ask for a spring and you get a real one. Prism simulates stiffness, damping, and mass, then bakes the result down to clean keyframes — so you get true springy settle and multi-bounce overshoot without an expression slowing your comp, and you can still hand-tune the curve afterward.

Whatever you ask for lands as real keyframes you can still edit, not a baked script.
